If you’re planning to study MBBS abroad, take note: The Supreme Court has ruled that no medical degree from a foreign college will be valid unless the student has cleared the NEET-UG exam.
This decision reinforces the National Medical Commission’s (NMC) rule, which has required NEET-UG for medical studies both in India and abroad since 2018. The court also clarified that this rule does not violate any laws.
The judges stated that students who knowingly enroll in foreign medical colleges without clearing NEET-UG cannot later ask for an exemption. However, this does not affect their right to practice medicine outside India.
The verdict serves as a warning to students not to pursue MBBS abroad without qualifying for NEET-UG, as their degree will not be recognized in India.
