The Jammu and Kashmir government told the Assembly on Tuesday that Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) is running 100 electric buses in Srinagar. This update was given after MLA Saif-u-Din Bhat from Khansahib asked about the current smart bus services and whether they could be extended to Rawalpora. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who also looks after the Housing and Urban Development Department, said that the 100 electric buses are operating on 16 different routes across the Srinagar Metropolitan area. These buses run from 7 AM till late at night. He also said that the Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) runs 20 more e-buses on 14 city routes, improving the public transport network further. About Rawalpora, the Chief Minister mentioned that e-Bus Route No. 12 already connects areas like Rangreth and Rawalpora to places like Jehangir Chowk and Batmaloo. He added that JKRTC has already expanded its Budgam service to cover Rawalpora and that they are considering starting a regular bus service from Lal Chowk to Rawalpora soon.
