Kashmir, famously referred to as “heaven on earth,” offers a mesmerizing blend of colors across all four seasons—whether it’s a pristine white blanket in winter, a fiery red carpet of Chinar leaves in autumn, or the vibrant hues of blooming flowers in spring. With the arrival of spring, almond trees are adorned with delicate white blossoms, and a vibrant mix of flowers transforms the landscape.
One of the most breath-taking attractions during spring is the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, formerly known as Siraj Bagh. Nestled at the foothills of the Zabarwan Mountains in Srinagar, Kashmir, this garden is the largest tulip garden in Asia. It is home to 73 varieties of tulips, spread over 73 acres of land. The garden remains open for approximately 20 days between March and April, and in 2025, it is expected to open on March 23. The best time to visit is during the first week of April, when the tulips are in full bloom, creating a breath-taking spectacle.
Adding to the allure of this floral paradise is the Tulip Garden Festival, an annual celebration that showcases the rich cultural heritage of Kashmir. The festival features exhibitions of Kashmiri handicrafts, traditional music, and various cultural activities, enhancing the already vibrant and magical ambiance of the garden.
With each passing year, the popularity of the tulip garden continues to soar. In 2024, a record-breaking 4.2 lakh visitors, both domestic and international, marvelled at its beauty, surpassing all previous attendance records. A visit to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden is truly an unforgettable experience, offering a perfect blend of nature’s brilliance and Kashmiri culture.
