The Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department had announced the vacation on December 20, 2024, for degree colleges in Kashmir’s winter zones. As per the official schedule, colleges in these areas, along with those in Jammu’s winter zone, remained closed from December 27, 2024, to February 14, 2025. In contrast, colleges in Jammu’s summer zone had a shorter winter break from January 1 to January 10, 2025.
Meanwhile, over 2 lakh students from classes 10 and 12 will begin their annual board exams tomorrow. Schools in Kashmir and Jammu’s winter zones are set to reopen on March 1.
The School Education Department had divided the winter vacation into phases. Students up to Class 5 had holidays from December 10 to February 28, while those in Classes 6 to 12 were off from December 16 to February 28, 2025. Additionally, teachers in Government High and Higher Secondary Schools were instructed to return to their respective locations from February 10 to help prepare for board exams.
