To improve patient care and maintain hospital standards, the management of Mirza Mohammad Afzal Begh Memorial (MMABM) Associated Hospital, part of Government Medical College (GMC) Anantnag, has implemented a ban on outside food for patients. A new, dedicated diet service tailored to meet the specific health needs of patients has also been introduced.
An official from the hospital explained that this move is aimed at ensuring better hygiene, discipline, and overall quality of care within the hospital. Attendants can now visit patients only between 3:00 pm and 4:30 pm, helping reduce disruptions and allowing the medical staff to focus on their work more effectively.
The hospital now provides four meals a day to meet the nutritional and medical needs of patients. If attendants need food, they can get it from the hospital canteen or outside food providers, but outside food is not allowed inside the wards.
To further ensure cleanliness, the hospital has also prohibited the use of polythene bags within its premises, in line with its commitment to eco-friendly practices. This change follows concerns over hygiene issues, including rodent infestations, linked to outside food.
The hospital’s security team has been instructed to strictly enforce these rules, with clear penalties for non-compliance. The administration is asking for the support and understanding of patients, attendants, and staff to make these changes successful and create a healthier, safer environment for recovery.
“This step ensures patients get clean, balanced meals while improving overall hospital hygiene and discipline,” the official concluded.
