The Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG), originally planned for February 22-25, were postponed due to a lack of snow in Gulmarg. However, between February 25 and 28, Kashmir received moderate to heavy snowfall, with Gulmarg getting 113 cm of snow, making it suitable for winter sports.
Following the fresh snowfall, the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council announced that the event will now take place from March 9 to 12. Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had earlier suggested that the games be scheduled for early March, as it would be difficult to hold them later.
The competition will feature various winter sports, including alpine skiing, Nordic skiing, ski mountaineering, and snowboarding. Around 1,000 athletes and officials from 30 teams across different states and sports boards are expected to participate.
