On January 17, 2025, Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo chaired a joint meeting with key officials to discuss the timely completion of the AIIMS Awantipora project. The meeting included representatives from AIIMS, Health & Medical Education, PWD, Jal Shakti, and CPWD.
The Chief Secretary reviewed the current progress at the site, where construction is at about 61% completion across all 57 blocks. He was briefed by Dr. Sachidananda Mohanty, Executive Director of AIIMS Awantipora, who confirmed that the institute is on track to begin operations by November 2025.
The meeting focused on various issues, including the availability of laborers, which has been affected by winter. The labor force has reduced from around 2,500 to approximately 850 due to cold weather. However, officials are optimistic that work will pick up once the weather improves. The Chief Secretary also reviewed the water supply system and the approach road, directing the Jal Shakti Department to ensure water availability by May 2025.
The Chief Secretary emphasized the need to complete all pending works promptly and assured full administrative support for the timely launch of this vital healthcare facility.
