On Thursday, the higher areas of Kashmir Valley, including Zojila Pass and the popular tourist spot Sonamarg, experienced fresh snowfall. Sonamarg received more than 3 inches of snow, while Zojila Pass saw around 4 to 5 inches by Thursday evening. As a result, the crucial Srinagar-Leh National Highway was temporarily closed. A traffic police official mentioned that snow had been falling in both Sonamarg and Zojila since Thursday morning, and traffic was halted from both the Sonamarg and Kargil sides. The decision to reopen the road will depend on weather improvement and clearance by the Border Roads Organization (BRO).
Despite the road disruptions, tourists were seen enjoying the snowfall at Sonamarg. A group of visitors expressed their delight, saying, “We are happy to see snow at this time of year. It has made our trip to Kashmir even more enjoyable.” However, the slippery roads on the Kangan-Sonamarg route caused delays in traffic movement.
